OpenAI has unveiled a major redesign of its chatbot interface called Intelligent UI, launching alongside the new GPT-6 model. Rolling out globally, the update shifts ChatGPT away from its traditional text-heavy format toward a highly visual and interactive experience. Instead of static images, the interface integrates dynamic elements such as editable graphs, interactive charts, tappable buttons, and custom calculators tailored to specific user prompts.

During a demonstration, OpenAI product manager Aarush Selvan explained that while the chatbot "has predominantly been a text-based interface," the company wants to help users "get things done" beyond simple text responses. To showcase the capabilities of GPT-6 and the new UI, OpenAI demonstrated diagrams explaining how an airplane wing generates lift, bicycle mechanics, and multi-day hiking maps. Other interactive elements shown included visual recipes and personalized savings calculators.

The rollout schedule varies by subscription tier. Paying customers on the Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise tiers receive access to the Intelligent UI and GPT-6 starting Wednesday. Users on the free tier and the lower-cost Go tier will gain access on Thursday. For users who prefer the classic conversational style, OpenAI has made the visual features customizable, allowing people to dial back the interactive elements if they prefer text-only outputs.

For developers and enterprise practitioners, this shift marks a transition from simple text generation to dynamic application rendering. Instead of building separate front-end widgets for data visualization or simple calculations, creators can rely on GPT-6 to generate functional, interactive micro-apps on the fly. This could significantly streamline workflows in education, financial planning, and customer support, where complex data must be communicated clearly and interactively.
